RGS & AWS commends the Forest Service on their efforts to restore young forest habitat at biologically significant scales. We’re fully supportive of the proposed action outlined in the Stearns Ruffed Grouse Habitat Management Project on the Stearns Ranger District of the Daniel Boone National Forest. Urgent action is needed at the landscape scale, above and beyond localized habitat improvement efforts, to halt the decline in ruffed grouse and other forest wildlife in eastern Kentucky before it’s too late. RGS & AWS Forest Service Partnership Improves Habitat in Kentucky’s Daniel Boone National Forest, Draws Partner Praise

A diverse roster of conservation and resource management agencies underscored the importance of sustainable, science-based forest management to wildlife in a stewardship agreement being led by the Ruffed Grouse Society & American Woodcock Society and the U.S. Forest Service. The multi-year partnership in the Daniel Boone National Forest in southeast Kentucky is improving close to a thousand acres of forest wildlife habitat. RGS will submit formal comments, but it’s very helpful for individuals to also submit comments supporting active forest management and prescribed fire to create diverse, quality habitat for grouse and other wildlife.
