June 30, 2026 by Ruffed Grouse Society

Timothy C. Flanigan 4/10/1945 – 6/6/26 The upland conservation community lost one of its most gifted storytellers with the passing of Timothy C. Flanigan. An award-winning photographer, accomplished writer and mentor, Tim dedicated countless hours to sharing the beauty of grouse and woodcock through his lens and his words. His generosity, talent and passion left an immeasurable mark on our organization and the outdoor community. Tim was more than a contributor to RGS & AWS. He was a trusted friend, generously sharing his remarkable photography, writing and books with the organization simply because he believed in the mission. Time and again, he...

RGS & AWS is proud to announce the execution of the Francis Marion Restoration and Wildlife Enhancement Stewardship Agreement with the U.S. Forest Service. The five-year partnership represents a significant investment in active forest management and wildlife habitat restoration across the Francis Marion National Forest in coastal South Carolina. The project will improve approximately 3,000 acres of overstocked loblolly and longleaf pine stands through commercial timber harvests, creating healthier and more resilient forests while generating important conservation benefits for a wide range of wildlife species. Under the stewardship agreement, revenue generated through the timber harvests will be reinvested into the forest to support additional restoration work and fund a dedicated Forest Wildlife Specialist position responsible for overseeing harvest operations...

For hunters, bird dog owners, hikers and wildlife watchers, trails provide more than recreation. They create access to wildlife habitat, connect people with conservation and support the active forest management needed to sustain healthy working forests. “At RGS & AWS, trails are an important part of our conservation mission. Hunter walking trails promote foot travel through high-quality grouse and woodcock habitat while providing access for habitat management projects that benefit wildlife and forest health. Road maintenance and sustainability are also essential components...
