Flambeau River State Forest Tree Planting Day

Join us on Monday, May 4 for a habitat day at the Flambeau River State Forest. We’ll meet at 8:00 a.m. at the Visitor Center, where RGS Forest Wildlife Specialist Ashley Strabel will be leading the event alongside Flambeau River State Forest forestry staff.

The goal for the day is to plant 1,000 trees provided by the DNR, focusing on swamp white oaks in areas impacted by emerald ash borer.

Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring knee-high boots if possible.

Inaugural Battle at the Border Sporting Clays Shoot

The Battle of the Border Sporting Clays Shoot will feature a 50-round sporting clays competition where shooters will test their skills for both individual and state bragging rights. The team with the highest overall score will be crowned Battle of the Border Champions, while the highest combined score from shooters representing each state will determine which state claims shooting superiority—Wisconsin or Minnesota.

Join us for a fun and competitive shoot featuring great camaraderie, exciting prizes, and plenty of border-state bragging rights!

The Wisconsin Forestry Revitalization Act Officially Passes

The Wisconsin Forestry Revitalization Act (SB 456) represents a major step forward for the state’s forest economy, creating new markets for low-value wood and strengthening the long-term health of Wisconsin’s working forests. Central to the legislation is support for a proposed woody biomass facility in Hayward that would convert forest material into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This initiative is expected to drive up to $1.5 billion in total investment across Northern Wisconsin’s forest products sector, supported by performance-based incentives of up to $120 million in tax credits to attract private capital and secure the project locally.
