December 16, 2025 by Ruffed Grouse Society

The Jersey Shore chapter of the American Woodcock Society (AWS) and the New Jersey Fish and Wildlife team have completed our fifth partnership for a habitat/planting project on New Jersey Wildlife Management areas. This important partnership between the two organizations has delivered five successful planting projects in New Jersey during the past five years! We planted 126 alder trees to create staggered growth edges and also planted 20 persimmon fruit trees for the turkeys. We then applied seedling protector tubes so we can protect...

American Woodcock on the Jersey Shore – RGS

May 11, 2020 by Anthony Giattino

Photo By | Tim Flanigan – NatureExposure.com Borrowed Birds American woodcock migration maps resemble an airline’s route map for the eastern United States; these birds love to move. Like an airplane, woodcock need proper places to land in every state they visit. The Ruffed Grouse Society and American Woodcock Society (RGS & AWS) provides its local chapters with the resources and professional expertise needed to foster habitat for these migratory birds.
