Chapter Highlight: Habitat Improvement Project at Chapel Point State Park

April 1, 2026 by Ruffed Grouse Society

The Central Maryland Chapter is proud to share the successful completion of their recent habitat improvement project at Chapel Point State Park in support of the American Woodcock. The chapter improved access to each field, established 10-foot clear lanes around field edges, and created 50-foot deep end zones.

These enhancements provide the open space needed for woodcock courtship displays while also promoting healthier, more dynamic habitat conditions for a variety of wildlife.

Central MD Chapter: Habitat Day

September 15, 2023 by Ruffed Grouse Society

Members in Central Maryland attended a habitat day at the Frederick Watershed Forest that RGS planned with the Maryland Forest Service, which manages the Frederick Watershed Forest. Members cut and removed Mountain Laurel so that the MD Forest Service can conduct a prescribed fire later this Fall, which will improve habitat for woodcock and other wildlife.
