The Ruffed Grouse Society & American Woodcock Society (RGS & AWS) is pleased to welcome Zach Evans as its new forest conservation director for Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. Evans’ hiring marks a strategic investment in regional forest management, made possible through leveraged grants and cooperative agreements that support habitat conservation efforts. Evans, originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, brings a strong background in forestry and wildlife management to the role. (February 28, 2025) – Experienced forester and resource manager Tom Schultz was named chief of the U.S. Forest Service on Thursday, a decision welcomed by the Ruffed Grouse Society & American Woodcock Society, which underscored Schultz’s deep knowledge of the forest products industry and his demonstrated commitment to managing and supporting healthy forest wildlife habitat.   As the 21st chief of the Forest Service, Schultz will manage 154 national forests and 20 grasslands across 43 states. Amelia Shingle Joins RGS & AWS as Forest Wildlife Specialist in Wisconsin

RGS & AWS welcomes Amelia Shingle as a forest wildlife specialist working in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. Amelia is originally from Lindenhurst, Illinois, and earned her bachelor’s degree in forest ecosystem restoration and management with minors in soil science and forest ecology and health at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Her previous work experience includes interning with the Healthy Grown program, where she worked with landowners to restore unused agricultural fields into native prairies. Additionally, she has worked as a fire effects monitoring research assistant, monitoring the effects of prescribed fire on oak regeneration and deer forage. In her free time, she enjoys...
