RGS & AWS is happy to announce Stefan Nelson as the new Minnesota forest wildlife specialist. For two and a half years, Nelson had played a vital role in assisting private landowners in the northeast part of Wisconsin as a forest wildlife specialist with RGS & AWS. He worked in his partnership role with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, where he helped private landowners assemble the contractors, consultants and state and federal funding opportunities to accomplish their forest management and wildlife habitat objectives.
Based out of Duluth, Minnesota, Nelson will be working in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service to lead the Arrowhead Collaborative to establish two Dynamic Forest Restoration Blocks to coordinate projects at the landscape level across multiple ownership groups and address wildlife habitat, forest health, forest products, fire and climate objectives. The Arrowhead Collaborative is focused within the LaCroix ranger district on the Superior National Forest, an area checkerboarded with different ownership groups: federal, tribal, state, county and private.
“I’m excited to address wildlife and forest issues at the landscape level to target management concerns at scale. Fostering cooperation between RGS & AWS and our partners will prove to be a challenging but engaging opportunity,” said Nelson.
