Sam Lau will move from his position as integrated forest habitat biologist in Northeast Wisconsin to serve as a forest wildlife specialist based out of Medford, Wisconsin. In a partnership with the Natural Resources Conservation Service partnership position that focuses on assisting landowners enrolled in cost incentive programs that implement appropriate land practices to benefit wildlife on their properties. These practices include, but aren’t limited to, tree plantings, early successional habitat, alder shearing, brush management, forest stand improvement and pollinator plantings.
A Wisconsin native, Lau earned a Bachelor of Science majoring in wildlife research and management from UW-Stevens Point. He has been employed by a handful of Universities across the U.S, working on collaborative research projects for a variety of upland game bird and waterfowl species; including ruffed grouse, pheasant, bobwhite quail, sage grouse, and lesser scaup. This includes several projects in Wisconsin, researching ruffed grouse habitat utilization and selection. He enjoys hunting, fishing, traveling, and photography in his free time.
