Description: This is my 9-year-old Brittany, Tober, with a ruffed grouse taken on my family's land that we manage for bird habitat. The 300 acre parcel in northern Maine has been in my family for three generations and was selectively harvested the year before this photo was taken. I followed Tober for 200 yards from point to point as he trailed this bird through the woods until he finally locked up solid. As I moved ahead of him the bird flushed and everything came together for one of those picture-perfect moments that I'll remember forever.
