Why the Bellwether? It’s simple really… Merriam-Webster defines bellwether as “an indicator of trends” and, “one that takes the lead or initiative.” The definition represents our mission on two fronts. The ruffed grouse is an indicator of forest health, and we find the downward trends in grouse numbers troubling. With talk of closed seasons and proposed endangered species listings, now is the time to take action and lead conservation efforts for this iconic bird and all forest wildlife.
Bi-monthly installments of the Bellwether email will provide you with the knowledge and resources to act as conservation leaders. Without your leadership our cause is lost, and the bellwether’s drumming – the heartbeat of the forest – will be heard no more.
Sincerely,
Ben Jones
