The Michigan Department of Natural Resources recently released a new, comprehensive state forest management plan. Developed collaboratively by DNR forestry, wildlife, fisheries and recreation planning staff, the plan, once finalized, will guide the department’s forest management for the next 10 years, impacting Michigan’s close to 4 million-acre state forest system.
Your input is sought on the draft plan!
This plan addresses Michigan’s state forest management across the board, including young forest management and early successional habitat for a variety of wildlife, notably ruffed grouse and American woodcock. Managing our aspen forests is critical for these species and for general forest health statewide.
Public comment is being accepted until Oct. 4, 2024.
