Over the years, the American Woodcock Society (AWS) has supported ground-breaking research into this fascinating bird, the American woodcock. First, a migration study in the Central Flyway revealing key nesting grounds, migratory paths, and wintering locations. Now, a similar study in the Eastern Flyway. In 2017 AWS sponsored the 11th American Woodcock Symposium, highlighting work from the world’s leading researchers.
My fellow conservationists, the science is in, let’s put it to work!
For Giving Tuesday, we are kicking off a major campaign focusing on woodcock conservation. The goal is to expand our habitat network safeguarding critical stopover and wintering grounds. Land protection, habitat improvement, and sharing this birds’ unique story are all on the docket.
American woodcock are listed as a “species of greatest conservation need” in 28 State Wildlife Action Plans. We cannot take them for granted.
Join the movement by donating today, sharing our Giving Tuesday message, and challenging other conservationists to do the same!
