April 1st work day postponed due to the weather. The forecast was for rain in the morning, with 25-30 mph winds with gusts over 50 mph. Not very good working conditions! Please let anyone you know who planned to help April 1 about the new date.
The planting work day is rescheduled for Saturday, April 15. We will meet at the Junction Convenience Store (look for the buffalo on the roof), 2968 Parkersburg Turnpike, Swoope, VA 24479, at 11 AM to avoid conflicts with spring turkey hunting. With several volunteers, we should be done by 3 PM.
We will be working on the Little North Mtn WMA in Augusta County. We plan to plant fruiting trees and shrubs to provide additional food sources for grouse and other wildlife species. Some will be planted in tree shelters and wire cages, while most will be planted using a dibble bar or hoedad. Please bring shovels, wire cutters, post drivers, 5-gallon buckets, gloves, a strong back, a good attitude, funny stories and lunch!
