H.C. Edwards Chapter Habitat Work Day

March 30 @ 9:30 am - 3:00 pm

The H.C. Edwards Chapter of RGS is planning its annual habitat work day for Saturday, March 30, with a rain date of Saturday, April 6.  We plan to do things a little differently this year: instead of planting apple trees and fruiting shrubs, we plan to go back to the different sites where we’ve planted in the past and do maintenance and care of the trees. This may involve removing the wire cages for some trees, removing competing grasses and shrubs, removing the tree shelters, pruning the trees and replanting trees, if needed.  We have planted trees for many years and we feel the need to see what the results have been and to care for the trees.

While the focus will be on maintenance and care for the planted trees, we’ll also have a few trees available to replant, if trees have died or been damaged. So if you plan to come, please bring: tree trimmers and hand pruners, wire cutters, shovels or spades, work gloves, post drivers, other tools you feel are needed, a strong back and good sense of humor.  Should be Fun! 😊 Please bring your own lunch and drink.  We hope to wrap up around 3 p.m.

If coming, plan to meet at the “Churchville Mall” at the intersection of Rt. 42 and Rt. 250 about 8 miles west of Staunton, VA on Rt. 250. We will split into two work groups – one going to the Highland WMA and the other going to the Little North Mtn WMA.

Call or email to confirm that you plan to attend the work day. (We don’t want to leave before everyone arrives).
