Donations to a Chapter

The Internal Revenue Service requires that all donations over $250 be acknowledged to the donor in writing. If the donation is requested for an event, a receipt for the donation should be completed. If it’s a cash or gift card donation, the amount should be listed on the form. If it’s any other type of donation, the monetary value cannot be listed per IRS guidelines. The donor should work with their tax accountant to determine the tax-deductible amount. RGS National must receive a copy of all donation receipts. If the donation is collected outside of an event, RGS & AWS National must be notified so a tax letter/thank you letter can be sent to the donor. Notifying RGS & AWS of all donations is critical because any donor contributing over $5,000 in total must be listed on Form 990, which is completed by the auditors and filed with the IRS.
