Each RGS & AWS chapter should be committed to sharing and supporting the organization’s mission. Chapters are the tip of the spear and a key component in mission-focused support and fundraising. Engaging with members, other chapters, stakeholders, and the public is most important. Chapter engagement and outreach should be considered a primary chapter goal and equally important as fundraising. By doing so, chapters share the organization’s work, raise awareness, attract new members, increase camaraderie and build a community of passionate conservationists.
Each chapter should have a goal for success and sustainability. Success should be seen as increased engagement and awareness of the mission, increased regional fundraising efforts, and community growth and development within the chapter. Further, a chapter should be mindful of stewarding the next generation of upland hunters and conservationists and the next generation of chapter leaders, volunteers and committee members. Succession is an integral part of all volunteer work, and those who follow can and should learn a great deal from those in current leadership positions.
A chapter should work with the regional staff to grow RGS & AWS membership and events and explore new ideas like innovative fundraisers, new types of events and creative communication tactics.
