Susquehanna River Valley Chapter and PGC Habitat Day at SGL 134

The Susquehanna River Valley Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society is partnering with the Pennsylvania Game Commission for a habitat improvement project on State Game Lands 134 near Proctor on Saturday, April 11.

Volunteers are needed to assist with the installation of fencing around tree seedlings that have been planted at the site. Volunteers should bring work gloves and eye protection. We expect to finish by lunch time. Please bring your own water and snacks.

The PGC will furnish all of the tools and supplies needed. The event will take place rain or shine, so please dress for the weather.

Greater Pittsburgh Area Chapter Woodcock Walk 2026

Join the Greater Pittsburgh Area Chapter President of RGS, Luke Onorato, and park staff in pursuit of one of the most unusual birds found in Pennsylvania. The woodcock, also known as the timberdoodle, night partridge, big-eye, bogsucker and mudsnipe, has seen a dramatic decline due to the loss of young forest habitat over many decades.

Pennsylvania is currently at a 50-year low for young forest habitat. Covered Bridge Chapter 19th Annual Sporting Clays Shoot

Enjoy a morning of shooting and lunch with people just like you—people who care about healthy forests, abundant wildlife and conservation ethic.

First place plaque for high team score. Awards to High Overall Shooter, High Female, High Junior, High Shooter in Lewis Class A, B and C and High Overall Side-by-Side awar.

 

Squads are based on four people. If you have less than four registrants, RGS will fill vacancies to make a full squad, if possible. Depending on the number of shooters, we can’t guarantee it will work out evenly.

Central Pennsylvania Chapter Habitat Day 2026

Michaux State Forest – 39* 49.2372’N –  77* 30.6499’W

Volunteers from First Energy, Central Pennsylvania Chapter of RGS, and staff members of the Michaux State Forest will plant approximately 200 1-3 gal. shrubs and 200 seedlings. Bring a shovel, wear good boots, and gloves if desired.

Food and drinks will not be provided so bring your own along if desired.

Please arrive by 9 A.M. at the Mont Alto State Park parking lot on Rt. 233, approx. ¼ mi. west of Staley Road.
