Join the Ruffed Grouse Society & American Woodcock Society for an evening walk to witness one of the most remarkable signs of spring, the courtship display of the American woodcock. The walk will end by (hopefully!) watching the remarkable dance and song of this secretive bird.
The walk portion of the event will be held entirely outdoors. The time, approximately 75 minutes, will be spent on a leisurely walk with a handful of stops. The planned walk will occur on a trail – expect to walk 1/2 to 1 mile. Feel free to bring a portable chair to use while we wait. For maximum enjoyment, some of the walk will require participants to patiently remain still, quiet and listen closely.
• Dress for the weather as this program will be outside
• Wear sturdy shoes – trails may be wet and muddy
• Bring binoculars if you have them
• Bring a flashlight or headlamp for the walk out after dusk
