RGS & AWS Northeast Region Partner Highlight – Campfire Conservation Fund, Inc.

July 19, 2022 by Ruffed Grouse Society

This month’s Northeast RGS & AWS regional partnership spotlight focuses on Campfire Conservation Fund, Inc. which is based in Chappaqua, NY. Established in 1977, Campfire Conservation Fund works closely with the Campfire Club of America’s conservation committee, promoting awareness around the intelligent use of natural resources, supporting hunter and angler-led conservation efforts, and enabling education and public information projects linked to hunting, fishing, and shooting sports activities.

Over its forty-five-year span, Campfire Conservation Fund, Inc. has supported hundreds of important conservation programs throughout the Northeast region, including the SUNY ESF Lecture Series, National Conservation Leadership Institute, and the SUNY ESF Belant Wildlife Conservation program.Campfire Conservation Fund, Inc. is supporting RGS & AWS’ forest habitat restoration efforts and outreach in the Northeast U.S. through a multi-year funding commitment that has been instrumental in launching our projects and programs in New York and New England.

Their support helped us secure funding from the U.S. Forest Service’s Landscape Scale Restoration grant for the Massachusetts Dynamic Forest Restoration Initiative – a public and private lands habitat restoration partnership with Massachusetts Department of Fish & Game, Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, Mount Grace Land Trust, and National Wild Turkey Federation. This project will restore over sixteen hundred acres of forest habitat diversity on public lands and over four hundred acres of invasive species mitigation on private lands throughout central and western Massachusetts.

Along with working toward balanced forest landscape conditions, the initiative also includes a key public awareness and educational component which highlights the importance of this work for wildlife diversity and resilient, healthy forests. We appreciate the support from Campfire Conservation Fund, Inc., and celebrate its association with Campfire Club of America, whose rich conservation legacy includes saving American bison and the establishment of Glacier National Park.
