Happy holidays to you and yours! As mentioned in the last update, our 2024 Nova Scotia birds came ‘back to life’ on November 15th…and most of them were stateside! All but 4 birds left the province much earlier than we anticipated, so we missed most of their overwater migrations. BUT…we are capturing detailed migratory flight data from them instead, which we’ll use in analyses related to night light and flight speeds.Â
In other news, 9 of the woodcock we tagged last January in Louisiana checked back in over the last several days! These birds are now all adults, with most being two years old, and one male and one female at least 3 years old (an accomplishment for a gamebird!). All birds are near their capture locations, demonstrating high winter site fidelity.
