Robert J. Lytle Chapter Woodcock Walk 2026

Join the Jim Foote Chapter of RGS & AWS in partnership with the Michigan DNR for an evening walk to witness one of the most remarkable signs of spring, the courtship display of the American woodcock. The walk will end by (hopefully!) watching the remarkable dance and song of this secretive bird.
The walk portion of the event will be held entirely outdoors and will last approximately 75 minutes, featuring a leisurely half-mile walk along a trail with several stops. Feel free to bring a portable chair for use while waiting at stops. For maximum enjoyment, some of the walk will require participants to patiently remain still, quiet, and listen closely.
• Dress for the weather
• Wear sturdy shoes – trails may be wet and muddy
• Bring binoculars if you have them
• Bring a flashlight or headlamp for the walk out after dusk
We’re happy to offer this program at no cost to participants, but if you’re able, a suggested $10 donation would be greatly appreciated.
