Greater Pittsburgh Area and Upland Bird Hunt Future Hunters and Handlers Day

The Upland Bird Hunt Chapter is taking their popular Future Hunters and Handlers Day on the road, partnering with the Greater Pittsburgh Area Chapter to offer this introduction to ruffed grouse and woodcock hunting and upland bird dog training.
We have a great day planned:
- Grouse and woodcock habitat identification
- Bird dog basics – Gear, breeds, what to expect, training concepts
- Vet expert – DVM, Michael Doornink, Vet Surgeon at Pittsburgh ER
- Grouse gear – What you need
- Intro to GPS – Where am I and how do I get where I’m going?
- Advanced – Demos, questions and answers for experienced dog handlers
If you’re a first generation hunter or a new bird dog owner who’s looking to spend some quality time in the field, but feel as if it’s daunting to get started, join us on April 26! Our goal is to create a network of hunters willing to impart quality knowledge for anyone looking to get started on this bird dog and upland hunting adventure.
Please consider downloading onX to your phone prior to the event. There’s a free trial version available.
RGS & AWS memberships will be available at the event.
Leashed bird dogs of all ages welcome to attend!
Don’t delay! Please pre-register so we can get a headcount for lunch.
If you have any questions at this time, please contact Luke Onorato.
