1.) What are member-only areas?

They are areas available only to RGS members whose membership has not expired. In addition to the areas described above, there are pages for Management Area Program project reports and the RGS Banquet Manual, and various benefits/discounts provided to RGS members via various webpages only available to logged in members.

An additional benefit is the ability to read/download/print project report summaries by state from the  RGS Management Area Program page.

RGS banquet volunteers will be interested in the RGS Banquet Manual as well.

2.) What are the RGS Forums?

The Ruffed Grouse Society provides a message board/discussion area or forum for its members and site visitors. There are three major segments of the RGS Forums; Public for any Registered and logged-in user to post under several major topics, Members-only for logged in current RGS members to share information, and finally the RGS Marketplace for all to read online Classified Ads and Hunt Trades details posted by current members. Any site visitor, whether logged in or not, may view all of the content of the Marketplace.

4.) Must I login to view the RGS website?

No, RGS website visitors have full access to the vast majority of the site, including joining or renewing their memberships via the Join & Renew link above. To Join or Renew currently, you only need to provide your member number and last name to prefill the information because a separate website handles our memberships. RGS Members wanting to take complete advantage of their memberships by participating fully in the RGS Forums (including posting online Classified Ads and Hunt Trades), RGS Photo Gallery and Member-only areas, or who would like to maintain their membership address, phone and email must be logged in and have performed the LINKING one time.

5.  Do I need to login more than once?

No, when you login you can access all the members-only content described here and the RGS-Mart will also be able to use the Linked name and address if the same email address is used in the RGS-Mart.

6.  May I use my prior username?

In most cases, the answer is Yes.

Prior forum posters were notified via email of the procedure in 2009 to reuse their usernames and Link their registration to their membership record in order to take full advantage of their membership.

New participants will need to Register, creating a username and password within the parameters of the forum, and then Link their registration to their membership record in order to take full advantage of their membership. Detailed instructions for the one-time procedure are here.

7.  I participated previously but didn’t receive an email pre-announcing the members-only availability, how do I retrieve my username?

Verify that the email did not end up in your SPAM or Junk email folder. It would indicate being From: Ruffed Grouse Society Forum. Please set your email program to allow any emails from that Sender or webmaster@ruffedgrousesociety.org.

If you still can not find the email, click the Forgot Password? button at top and fill in the email address you would have been using for your Forum profile up to late July 2009*, type in the words requested by the CAPTCHA process and click the Request Username… button at the bottom. Follow the instructions in the resulting email. If it indicates there is no such email address on file, simply Register with a username of your choice and at least a 6 character password then Link that to your membership.

*If the email address you used through late July 2009 is no longer valid, please contact the webmaster, providing your name and old and new email addresses.

9.  When I click a link, why is a login page being displayed?

If you click any link within the RGS website and the login window is presented, you do not have permission to access that page/area without logging in or renewing your RGS membership. Use the Join & Renew link at upper right to join or renew now.

10. What happened to the Classifieds and Hunt Trades posted previously?

All classifieds posted prior to March 15, 2010, were removed due to the length of time since this portion of the site was active. If any of these were yours and it should still be active, please repost it.

Some hunts were removed for the same reason. If your hunt trade offer is no longer valid, please edit it or delete it.

11. Why am I getting an error message about a security token missing?

Please close the RGS website but keep your browser open and delete Temporary Internet Files. In Internet Explorer 7, the menu choices are:

Tools

> Internet Options

> in the center of the window on the General tab, find “Browsing history” and click the “Delete…” button

> then in the “Temporary Internet Files” section, click “Delete files…“

> and confirm the deletion by clicking “Yes” — if you haven’t deleted these in a while it may take several minutes to finish

> click “Close” when that finishes

> then click “OK“.

Now open the RGS site, or if it is already open click the “Refresh” button on your browser.

Now login and if you haven’t done it already, link your account and member record using the Linking Procedure and enjoy.

12. When I try to login or obtain my username after entering my email address and it doesn’t recognize the login info or my email address — Why?

In every case so far, the user had not used that username to post on the old RGS message board. Therefore, because of technicalities that record was not imported into the Forum database and thus the forum system doesn’t recognize that email address, even though you may be receiving emails from RGS. You should Register and Link. FULL procedure details are available here.

NOTE: you can NOT use the previous username and password to simply login without going thru the process to Register the first time. The second step of Linking provides access to the member-only areas.

13.  Do I need to login to renew?

No, simply click the Join & Renew link at the top of the page, enter your member number and last name to have the system prefill the form, then complete the process.
