The Orvis Company has agreed to extend the Ruffed Grouse Society and American Woodcock Society Member-Get-A-Member Campaign gift card offer through March 31, 2015.

The Orvis Company, a longtime Ruffed Grouse Society (RGS) and American Woodcock Society (AWS) corporate sponsor, has agreed to extend the RGS and AWS 2014 Member-Get-A-Member Campaign gift card offer through March 31, 2015. The Campaign is an effort to encourage RGS and AWS members to support our sporting traditions for future generations by recruiting fellow grouse and woodcock hunters for membership. Both current (recruiting) members and new members receive $20 Orvis gift cards for their participation (a $40 value for a $35 membership).

“RGS and AWS recognize that the time is now to give back to the resource of grouse and woodcock habitat, and we are extremely grateful for our relationship with Orvis and their agreement to extend the gift card offer for our Campaign,” said RGS and AWS President and CEO John B. Eichinger. “If every member made the commitment to recruit a fellow grouse or woodcock hunter, we could double our membership and significantly increase our voice in support of preserving our sporting traditions for future generations.”

Young forests are one of the nation’s 20 most threatened bird habitats. In the East, young forests have decreased by 33 percent over past several decades. Grouse, woodcock and over 40 species of songbirds rely on young forest habitat. Woodcock populations are declining by 1 percent per year, and some regions are considering moratoriums on grouse hunting. The time is certainly now to generate support for habitat creation, and RGS and AWS are at the forefront of overcoming these challenges.

Grouse and woodcock hunters understand the commitment necessary to benefit young forest habitat and are in the best position to find future supporters for habitat initiatives. Membership in RGS and AWS significantly increases the impact that can be made on habitat, wildlife and hunting nationwide.  RGS and AWS ask hunters to participate in this Campaign so the next generation enjoys grouse and woodcock resources as we do today.

Creating young forest habitat for grouse and woodcock was an integral part of the 2014 Campaign – RGS and AWS held a habitat drawing granting funds to state Drummer Funds in the name of the winning regional participants. The habitat grant drawings were held on December 31, 2014, the winners will be announced on www.ruffedgrousesociety.org in the near future, and the habitat drawing portion of the Campaign will not be extended through March 31, 2015.

Participation in the extended Campaign is easy – For all rules and regulations or to participate, go to www.ruffedgrousesociety.org, or call toll free 888-JOIN-RGS (888-5646-747).
